Mariah Vs Whitney

Well I just posted this on my new blog at a music social network so I figured I'd copy it across. But I shan't be staying there as much...I don't think they would like the potty mouth.



Mariah Vs. Whitney

It’s the age old ciche, the battle of the divas and who are the biggest? Well, I feel Madonna is not really in the same RnB game, although her last album would have you think otherwise. But for me there’s really only Whitney and Mariah.

Obviously Mariah gets my vote every time mainly because she just seems more fun and also has creative control (sometimes too much) over everything she does.

With their albums both coming out this Autumn, the ‘battle’ is going to kick off all over again.

But my concern is that Mariah is just pulling out drippy middle of the road mid-tempo ballads, forever chasing another ‘We Belong Together’. Here is a demo. I’m a bit like, ‘Have we learnt nothing from the E=MC2 debacle?’

Whereas Whitney has the amazing Clive Davis behind her, people want her to do well, and her album sounds like it will be filled with standards like this.

That said I have had ‘Obsessed’ on loop for the last few days and the video only makes me love it more. I hope this leaked demos are not indicative of what to expect. Let’s hope it’s just The Dream trying to get himself some extra press. *sigh*
